Port Vendres

Sleeps 5

Here we have an authentic fisherman's house dating from 1865, modernised in 2001 and decorated skilfully with a lot of charm by the present owners. It is situated in a quiet street not two minutes walk, down steps, to the shops and to the mouthwatering offerings of the harbourside restaurants of this small, lively and unspoilt fishing port, steeped in history and dating back to Roman times (when it was known as Portus Veneris).

Port Vendres may be a working port, but a holiday here has a signature dedicated firmly to pleasure. Buy your fish, fresh from the boat below and cook it within minutes on the bbq in the delightful outside summer kitchen back at the house.

There are small beaches along the coast towards Collioure (you can walk from here to there with ease) a fabulous series of rocky coves just to the south and wide sandy beaches starting at the edge of the plain, just to the north.

Take a boat trip down the coast to Spain, scuba dive along the "coastal path", snorkel (even I can do that!) at Paulille, hire a boat and go fishing; all this and more is what spending a holiday in Port Vendres is really all about.
